The Horizon 2020 research project entitled WINETWORK aims to establish a European network of researchers and technicians in the field of viticulture and oenology.
The cooperation aims not only to fight against to serious grapevine diesases (Grapevine Trunk Diseases and Flavescence Dorée) but also to build up a professional network, which can help with future viticulture-oneology issues and support future research projects.
Ten so-called technical working groups have been established recently as part of the project, each one collects professionals of a certain wine region of Europe.
The first meeting of the technical working group of the Eger wine region was organized at the Food and Wine Research Centre of the Eszterházy Károly University of Applied Sciences. After a general review of the project Dr. Mária Kölber presented Flascence Dorée, the recent status of this disease in Hungary and possible management techniques. Then Dr. Bencéné Dula made her presentation about chronic diseases of grapevine focusing on Grapevine Trunk Diseases.
A round-table discussion allowed the participants to discuss the planned interviews with wine-makers aiming to collect innovative plant protection methods being in test stage. The gathered knowledge will be synthetized with data provided by the scientific working groups of the project resulting in a vast reservoir of knowledge regarding the two grapevine diseases and management techniques.
The WINETWORK has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 652601.
